Diet: Vitamin deficient Semi-pure diets

By careful selection of raw materials it is possible to manufacture diets low in any vitamin. However it has been our experience that manufacturing truly vitamin free diets is difficult.

The most commonly used protein source, acid casein, contains a considerable quantity of vitamins. So called "vitamin free casein" is available but when analysed we have found that it still contains a considerable quantity of some vitamins. This is particularly true of the B group vitamins. Removal of the fat soluble vitamins from acid casein appears to be more effective.

We have also found it difficult to manufacture or source oils completely free of fat soluble vitamins.
